The Wood Engraving class held July 15th, 16th and 17th was a delight! The Morgan Papermaking Conservancy‘s facility was clean and organized and the atmosphere was just perfect for the quiet concentration needed for learning wood engraving. Not an easy task the weekend before the RNC hits Cleveland!
Everyone worked diligently on their engraving – it is slow work, but the images emerge from the darkened surface, light is teased from the darkness. We used maple end grain blocks from Jim Reynolds. We printed the engravings the last day, adjusting to the shift in dimensions – a two-dimensional mirror image of the relief carved end grain block.
Many thanks to The Morgan Conservancy for all their hard work and to the fantastic students who made this a great class!
