This young lady made the last bee at Josephine Sculpture Park’s Fall Arts Festival on Sunday September 11! There were quite a few visitors who were leery about sitting down with bees, but in the end we convinced over 150 people that bees are our friends and worth saving!
We had lots of fun helping folks transform these original prints into custom designed paper bee sculptures. The bees were created by artist, Joanne Price – first drawn onto a piece of linoleum and then hand carved into a relief image. The print was then scanned into the computer so it could be combined with the text. And then, a photopolymer plate was created so that the image and text could be hand printed, one at a time, on a very old printing press. This project was first done in collaboration with Josephine Sculpture Park for the 2016 KY Crafted: The Market, as a free hands-on activity. At the time, 500 were printed – which have lasted for five free public hands-on activities throughout Kentucky!
Thank you to all the paper bee keepers out there and to Josephine Sculpture Park for putting on such a great event! Starpointe Studio is so proud to BEE Part of the Art!
