Did you miss the Little Free Print Exchange (LFPE) at the Mid America Print Council Conference? Maybe you weren’t prepared with a print to exchange? Guess what? You can visit the Little Free Print Exchange inside the University of Kentucky’s School of Art and Visual Studies building on the second floor, November 4 through December 23! Plan to participate – the only rule here is “Take a Print, Leave a Print” – bring your 8 x 8 inch (or smaller) print to swap with your favorite!
October 5th through the 8th, the LFPE Libraries were set up at the Frankfort Crossing Studios (Crescent Hill neighborhood of Louisville), Indiana University Southeast (New Albany, IN), and at the University of Louisville. The image of the knife among the photos above represents the first exchange – “take a print, leave a print“! So what were the results? At Indiana University Southeast at least 10 prints were taken – and of those only 3 were exchanges. At the University of Louisville, 4 prints were taken with 2 of those prints exchanged. At Frankfort Crossing Studios 6 prints were taken and 6 were left behind – 100% exchanged. I knew there would be some takers that didn’t leave a print, but I wonder if this became an ethical-sort of experiment or if the low participation was more about communication or miscommunication or bad location, etc? Well, I’m eager to test another location and make a few changes to clarify the intention. Please visit the Little Free Print Exchange inside the University of Kentucky’s School of Art and Visual Studies building on the second floor, November 4 through December 23 – and bring a print to exchange!

Little Library construction was made possible with the generous donation of time and materials by Joanne Price (Starpointe Studio), Josephine Sculpture Park, Jimmy Reynolds of J&L Shallow Creek Farm and Debby Stratford and family. Thanks also to Sarah Madison Brown and Dan Torpey for their time and energy in building the Little Libraries.
